Songpairing
*** I imagine water molecules like little synchronized swimmers, dancing around in spectacular crystallized formations with all their little molecule mates. This is their recital song, obvi. ***
In 2016, some smartypants scientists worked out that the water we drink, the water we bathe in and the water that cycles through the Earth was likely formed more than 4.5 billion years ago.
This was before planet Earth was formed, by the way. Our water came from elsewhere. 1
Think about that the next time you sip. You are drinking water molecules that probably formed on the outskirts of the solar system and arrived here billions of years ago on some moving planetary body called a plantesimal. It might have worked its way through a Tyrannosaurus, a cro-magnon, or Cleopatra before it got to you.
Meanwhile, I have noticed a phenomenon where many of my best ideas for music, lyrics, concepts and actions come to me in the shower or bath. It is not just me, either.
referred to the intuitive power of the shower in her latest post, and I’ve heard a handful of evidential anecdotes that further support my theory of *SHOWER POWER*.[Yes, that’s what I’m calling it.]
I’ve recently started a new Iphone note called Shower Wisdom to keep track of all the amazing, expansive and cockamamy notions that come to me.
It feels like when I get in the shower my ideas start to shift like puzzle pieces clicking into place. I’ve had code-cracking lyrics come to me, I’ve had melodies appear in my head, and most recently, I’ve had the absolute best and most creative merch idea (that will be revealed in due time).
The fun woo-woo part of me thinks it’s because water has amazing mystical psychic properties we don’t fully understand.
In 2004, researcher Masaru Emoto published a bestseller detailing his findings that water communicated with human consciousness. He exposed certain water to positive words and intentions and under a microscope it formed beautiful ice crystal snowflake molecules. He exposed other water to negative words and intentions and it formed distorted molecules.
This work has since been widely panned and criticized as unscientific and unreproduceable, so take that with a grain of salt. Or don’t. I know of several witchy practitioners that still advocate for blessing your cup of water, or giving it intentions before you drink it. I do it when I remember because it certainly can’t hurt.
And incidentally, scientists are making groundbreaking discoveries about water molecules and how they behave all the time, so what we do know is that we don’t know it all.
HOWEVER, what is definitely likely, is that being in the bath or the shower is one of the few remaining places in our society where we are free of external stimuli (save for the water itself.) We don’t bring our phones, our laptops, or (usually) our friends.
It is just us, dihydrogen monoxide, and existence.
There is something about sensory deprivation, silence and stillness that releases stress, and expands us into higher creativity and creative guidance. Consider the proven benefits of meditation and nature bathing, for example.
It is still to be scientifically determined whether the presence of water enhances these effects, but for me and many others, it definitely does.
Which is to say that the next time you find yourself creatively constipated, you might think about hopping in the shower.

If you're reading this I'm curious where you get great insight?
I'm sure my shower intuition is someone else's long drive, or nature walk intuition.
I have also had good ideas drop into my awareness during vigorous exercise. Never while scrolling my phone though, just sayin'
Shower power! Love this! 🚿💫❤️
